We have happy memories of him conducting for the Music Department at Kingston University where our son studied; he gave great encouragement to the young players.

Sending our prayers, love and condolences to our extend family Steven and family.
Mum (Kathleen Wick, last surviving child of Denis’ Uncle) spoke fondly of Denis’ visit to his Uncles farm (his fathers brother) in the mid west of Western Australia (Yandanooka, Shire of Mingenew). Mum was very grateful to reconnect with Denis a few years ago and Denis was very gracious to send mum a copy of the family tree, something which seemed to be a passion for him also.
Sincerely,
Kathleen (née Wick) & George Nairn

I was sadly deprived of the opportunity to meet this great man. That aside, I owe to my career as professional bass trombone player in part to the sound of the London Symphony Orchestra when Denis was principal trombone.
I was introduced to Star Wars episode IV at a tender age of 4 and I instantly gravitated towards the low brass section of Denis, Frank Mathison and John Fletcher. Throughout my studies I would always return to listening to the Star Wars recordings as well as countless other LSO recordings to remind myself of what can only be described as some of the finest brass playing I've ever heard on recording.
Denis can only be described as a giant and one of the fathers of trombone playing in the United Kingdom. My condolences go to Denis's family, colleagues and friends at this time.
