Luke hails from the North Cotswolds and began playing the cornet at the age of 7 with the Shipston Town Band organisation. He won many accolades in solo competitions throughout the area and gained his DipABRSM Cornet performance with distinction in December 2018.
Luke was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain joining the national Children’s Band in 2015 on Repiano and progressing to the Principal Cornet Chair. He went on to join the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain in 2017, starting down the solo cornet line and going on to become Principal Cornet in 2021. In the same year, he won the Geneva Heritage Cornet International Slow Melody competition, a project initiated by Philip McCann and Kirsty Abbotts, and was subsequently asked to become a Geneva Young Ambassador.
In 2019, at the age of 16, Luke joined the Flowers Band on 4th Solo Cornet, becoming their youngest member at the time. This gave him the opportunity to perform at major contests including The French Open, The British Open, The National Finals and Brass in Concert at this young age. Since joining the band, Luke worked his way up through the front row and was appointed to the Principal Cornet chair in 2022, debuting at the British Open the same year.
Luke has enjoyed many opportunities guesting with other bands, including performing with Brass Band Schoonhoven at The World Music Championships in Kerkrade, and sitting Principal Cornet at St Dennis Band for Bugle Contest where Luke was awarded ‘Best Cornet’. Upon moving to Switzerland for a compulsory year abroad as part of his degree, Luke joined the front row of Brass Band Treize Etoiles and was part of their winning performance at the Swiss National Championships, qualifying the band to appear at the 2023 European Championships in Malmo which will be Luke’s debut at the contest.
Luke is a modern languages student at the University of Birmingham and enjoys a busy schedule of academic studies and music making.
Luke is a Denis Wick Artist and plays on a 4B classic mouthpiece.
